Chairlady’s Musings: Do It Scared!

What is holding you back from doing something new? What is stopping you from launching a course, advertising your latest product, living your best life? Is it fear? Fear of failure. Fear of what people will think. Fear you may succeed and then have a lot of pressure on you. Fear that you don’t know what you are doing. Fear that you are not good enough. I feel you. I have been there and to be honest, I still feel like that on occasions (many occasions really!)

Last year, I was having coffee with my close friend, Elizabeth (now also a proud member of KZNWIB) and we chatted around this topic and guess what, she felt the same! So together we came up with this catchphrase – Do It Scared! So yes, feel the fear and do it anyway. Oh My Goodness, how this has served us both over the last year! The more you do this, the easier it gets to worry less, and just do it!

A little trick I’ve learned from Mel Robbins is the 5-4-3-2-1 rule. If you don’t want to do something, count backwards and when you get to one, just do it! Press that “send button” on your job application, launch that new course, go and meet that person, try something new, say YES!

Tell me, what do you fear? Or share how you overcame a major fear that was holding you back.
