September 2022 Meeting
September 1, 2022 @ 8:30 am - 10:30 am
Topic: Flying by the hem of our skirts!
Wendy Bashford Designs is a successful local business founded by two friends who each worked to their strengths, overcame their weaknesses and trusted one another. They had no business knowledge when starting out, a common theme for those who find a passion and pursue it, but have since learned a great deal about the importance of core business values and listening to your clients.

Guest Speaker: Shaileen Johnson
Shaileen is a born and bred Durbanite. She grew up on the tough tracks of Pinetown and has lived in Westville for many years.
She studied P.R and Communications at Natal Technikon (although talking comes very easily to her – so not much study was required!)
She worked in the Travel industry doing incentive group and event travel for many years. This is where Wendy and Shaize met – they ran the “Mauritius Tourism Board – promoting travel to Mauritius” where they were very successful in sashaying around in our Sega outfits, handing out tots of Green Island Rum. Needless to say, our exhibits were massive drawcards. She then tried her hand at ‘Corporate Interiors’ – designing and furnishing office spaces and owned her own company called ‘Working Spaces.’
But she was more excited about the Corporates wanting to know where they could buy the dresses she was wearing. This was the little push needed to leave the corporate environment and join forces with Wendy to hold hands, and take the leap of faith which has carried us to where we are now.
Shaileen has been married to Darron for 25 years (who still insists that that he was caught on my ‘non-disclosure’ clause on my mental stability) and has two children – a daughter, Erin of 22 and a son, Kade of 20 who have grown into amazing young adults (of which she is quite amazed that she must’ve done something right)
