Guest Speaker: Ncumisa Fandesi Ndelu
Ncumisa Fandesi Ndelu is a trailblazing entrepreneur and financial empowerment advocate who has revolutionised the way South African women approach, spend and save money. Through her groundbreaking women-only Facebook communities, 1 Family 1 Stockpile (820 members), 1 Baby 1 Stockpile (193k member), and From RSA to the World (89k members), Ndelu has created a movement that has inspired scores of women to take control of their finances and build a brighter future.
1 Family 1 Stockpile™ was founded in 2016 as an all-encompassing resource for women in South Africa and neighbouring countries to utilise their money more strategically. Since then, members have shared tips on how to shop smarter, pay off debt, and leverage their equity to buy homes and cars. The community continues to grow, focusing on cultivating a money-positive attitude among members where they can share their financial wellness journeys, as well as encourage others to plot their own goals, regardless of their financial status or background.
1 Baby 1 Stockpile is a platform where moms of children aged 0-4 share information on how best to raise their babies often on a budget. From RSA to the World is a tourism supporting initiative that encourages women to travel as a form of self care. Women use the platform to share their travel experiences and as a source of inspiration.
A former journalist, government communicator and Social Media Influencer, Ncumisa's passion for storytelling and community-building has been instrumental in simplifying complicated financial concepts, demystifying the process of saving money and fostering a culture of financial literacy. Her dedication to empowering women has earned her numerous accolades, including membership of the now defunct Facebook Community Learning Lab, recognition as a beneficiary of the prestigious Facebook Community Accelerator program and Daily Maverick's Businessperson of the Year. 1 Family 1 Stockpile is a winner of the 2024 ABSA Stokvel Award as the Most Unique Stokvel of 2024.
Ncumisa's impact extends beyond her community-building efforts. She has partnered with UN Volunteers and several national brands on numerous empowerment initiatives. She is a regular media commentator on consumer and financial matters. Ncumisa is a newspaper columnist for the prominent IsiZulu Newspaper Isolezwe.
Ncumisa is a social justice activist who co-founded and led the #TotalShutDown Movement which sought to shine the spotlight on the scourge of Gender Based Violence in South Africa. She is a patron of the Siphila Ngomusa Community Development Organisation, which provides daily meals to approximately 400 homeless people in the Durban CBD. To honour her mother who was a social justice activist in her own right, she founded the Bongiwe Veronica Foundation, a charity dedicated to teaching financial literacy and highlighting challenges faced by women and girls particularly in townships, rural areas, and institutions of higher learning.
Through her work, Ncumisa continues to inspire and empower women to achieve financial independence and security, cementing her reputation as a leading voice in financial empowerment and inclusion.
