Pravisha Dhanapalan

Guest Speaker: Pravisha Dhanapalan

Pravisha is currently the Director at Lifeline Durban, an NPO that supports community emotional wellness through counseling, training, and programme activities. With a B.A Social Work Honors Degree at the University of Durban Westville and a B. A Psychology Honors Degree Pravisha has 25 years of experience in this field. She has worked at Phoenix Child Welfare Society for 7 years and at Childline KZN for 7 years and has currently just completed 13 years at LifeLine Durban. 

With her passion for learning Pravisha has completed the following Diplomas and certificate courses: HIV/ AIDS Counselling, Voluntary Counselling and Testing, Offender Training- Rehabilitation of Offenders, Crisis Counselling Course, as well as Play Therapy Techniques for Assessment of sexually abused children, Forensic Social work specializing in Play therapy, Court Intermediary Training, HR Management, Project Management: Monitoring and Evaluation, LifeLine Personal Growth and Counselling Skills. 

Her career highlights include: Excellence in community development project award, Oxfam award for best practice model youth at high risk project, Mail and Guardian Award for Investing in the future and drivers of change for the youth at high risk project at LifeLine Durban, National LifeLine Hero’s award, and exchange programme with Ashodhaya Samithi in Mysore Bangalore India, presenting the Youth at High Risk programme as a Best Practice Model at the Ghent University Belgium France, and launching their very own Mobile Wellness Clinic specifically for youth at high risk enabling them to provide screening, counselling, testing and other clinical services including Pap smears.
