Chairlady’s Final Musings
And so, this time is coming to an end. As I reflect on my two years as chairlady of this incredible organization, I feel proud and happy and bit sad.
Almost 2 and a half years ago to first chatter about “who will be the next chair?” started and from my side it was a hard no! I did not believe for a second that it is something I can/want to do. Then it came up in casual conversation with Cindy, and she said to me “why not give it a try?”. Well, that planted a little seed. Then as I was mulling it over more voices told me I should go for it. And then I took the leap! I put my hand up, a quivering one, but a hand, nonetheless. I decided to do it, to do it scared.
Did I make some mistakes, absolutely! Did I learn a lot, absolutely! I had the support of the committee, the past chair and fellow members – so a heart-felt thank you goes out to you all.
I tried new things, and I put my own spin on existing ways of doing things.
I am so grateful for this opportunity to lead KZNWIB for 2 years and for the personal growth I experienced, for the lesson I’ve learned and the fun and good times.
So I want to finish with a sentiment I mentioned in one of my first few musings – just do it, do it scared, do it imperfectly, do it differently, but just do it. Even when you doubt yourself and your capabilities just go for it, learn as you go, ask questions and be open to the wonder and beauty of new possibilities.
