Chairlady’s Musings: Don’t deprive the world of your gift
We are so quick to dismiss our talents and what gift we can offer the world because of our insecurities. Over the past few years, I’ve come to realize how to change the tired refrains of “I am not good enough” and “I don’t know if what I have to offer is worthy.” into the question, “Who am I to deny my service, my product, my talents to the world?”
Can you imagine if Samsung hadn’t released the MRI machine, Xerox hadn’t released scanners, or Apple hadn’t released the iPhone? Imagine the number of people who would struggle with mental health issues on their own if coaches and psychiatrists did not provide their invaluable services.
Make a list of your favourite things and just imagine who-ever created those products or services was too shy, scared or unsure about themselves and didn’t take the leap to take the product to market how it would affect your life. Ok, maybe not all of it will be life-changing, but some create convenience, saves us time or just bring us happiness.
Just imagine a world without books and wine…I can’t!
While not all of us have products or services that can completely transform the world, we can all use ours to improve the lives of a certain group of people, a region, or even just some neighbours.
So next time the fears and negative thoughts creep up, banish them to the “I have a real world-changing job to do here, don’t be so selfish” box.
So stop being selfish by hiding your talents, the world needs you!
