Chairlady’s Musings: Motivation!
Well, here we are, beginning of Feb and a I am patiently waiting for my motivation, my oomph, my mojo to come and hit me with a vengeance. And so I wait….crickets. Nada. Nothing. I now have to dig deep and find it within myself, where I guess it was always going to come from. A million-rand windfall, bottomless strawberry daiquiris and a trip to Bora Bora would’ve helped for sure but the thing is, every day, all we do and feel is a direct reflection of our thoughts and actions.
So I decided to look at my business first, see what is making me feel heavy, where can I change or what tweaks can I do. What is working and what is not working. What brings me joy and where are my pain points? It was a good exercise as I could see the areas that no longer works for me. As we grow as people we sometimes outgrow certain parts of our business, so it is definitely worth while having a good look at your business regularly. For some it can just be a case of outsourcing the things that you hate, feel you are not good at or don’t have time for anymore, or that taps your energy. In my case, I have decided to scrap one more type of photoshoot. My house is full of outdated props just for this type of shoot and I hardly do them anymore. So, it was a no-brainer -BUT!!! The universe had a good laugh, as literally within an hour of making that decision guess what, I got an enquiry. And yes, I quoted for it (slight fail here in boundaries) but I thought it could be my swan song. So when the client didn’t book, I was relieved, and the universe moved on to play jokes on someone else. So now I can declutter and make space for more clients for the type of shoots I love.
Next up, I am also looking at the basics. Am I still doing the basics right, in the actual shooting, the editing, my pricing and how I deal with my clients. I am seeing what I am doing right and where I can improve.
This is also a good time to look at my marketing and advertising, to make sure I am still on track.
Then lastly (but most probably the most important) I am again looking at my mindset work. Did I let something slip, did I get too comfortable? Mindset work is non-stop and it is so easy to slip back into old ways of thinking….
Oh, and don’t forget to take action. “Success seems to be connected with action. Successful people keep moving. They make mistakes, but they don’t quit.” – Conrad Hilton
Tell me what you do when you feel your mojo is lacking – what steps do you take to get back on track?
