Singakwenza: Visual Motor Integration program

The third term is always an exciting one for both the practitioners and our trainers as everything that the children have been exposed to suddenly seems to click and the children’s mastery of a whole lot of skills that they have been practising all year becomes so obvious. We also use this term to do eye-screening of all the children who will be heading to formal school next year.

We have begun implementing the Visual Motor Integration program in the weekly lesson plans this term so that every child in our program has the opportunity to benefit from these focused activities that our Occupational Therapist has devised. We have had positive feedback and valuable insights from the trainers regarding the children’s differing capabilities and problem-solving skills in interacting with the games and materials. It has been a learning curve in terms of preparing and sourcing enough of the required recycling and resources, as every creche classroom needs a set of 10 of each activity (approximately 350 of each item in total!) but we will gain momentum and build up stock as the program continues. We are so grateful to our Meet ‘n Make volunteers who share their willing hands every week to help with this preparation, as we would not have managed without them.

Thank you so much for the R1,133.65 donation we received from the September meeting.  It will enable another month of magic for our little ones!

With grateful thanks

The Singakwenza team
